Third-world conditions? Armed guards escort passengers on Debrecen trains

Recently, the number of clashes on night and early-morning trains near Debrecen has increased. Because of this, from the end of November, police and railway guards will be on duty on some trains to accompany passengers.

Persons who pose a great threat to train passengers are usually under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Most of them travel without any identification cards or tickets. Because of this, on 29 November, MÁV (Hungarian State Railways) decided that members of security staff and police officers should escort passengers on the

Nyíregyháza–Debrecen–Budapest Nyugati line.

According to official statements, so far, the measure has been successful. Despite this, guards and police officers are not always on duty on trains where they should be.

Ticket inspectors – especially women – reported that they feel unsafe, considering they usually work alone.

Index has asked some passengers whether they have seen police officers or guards on the trains recently, and the answers were all negative. This means that, on some trains, this new measure has not been implemented yet, even though it was supposed to come into force on 12 December,

on seven trains daily.

VDSZSZ (Free Trade Union of Railway Workers) noticed this as well and has expressed their disapproval regarding the lack of guards. In addition, they reported that they do not find body cameras as effective as they should be. However, according to MÁV, since they introduced body cameras in 2019 (see: article), the number of clashes against ticket inspectors has decreased significantly.

  1. Tucker Carlson: If you need proof the media lies, look at how they treat Hungary
We’ve read many times how repressive Hungary is, but that’s wrong
    https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/tucker-carlson-media-lies-hungary

In fact, if you live in the United States, it is bitter to see the contrast between, say, Budapest and New York City. Let’s say you lived in a big American city and you decided to loudly and publicly attack Joe Biden’s policies, on immigration or COVID or transgender athletes. If you kept talking like that, you would likely be silenced by Biden’s allies in Silicon Valley. If you kept it up, you might very well have to hire armed bodyguards. That’s common in the U.S. Ask around.

But it’s unknown in Hungary. Opposition figures here don’t worry they’ll be hurt for their opinions. Neither, by the way, does the prime minister. Orban regularly drives by himself with no security. So who’s freer? In what country are you more likely to lose your job for disagreeing with ruling class orthodoxy? The answer’s pretty obvious, though if you’re an American, it’s painful to admit it, as we’ve discovered.

  2. Forget my last comment about numerou no go zones in Western Erope. I don’t know any. I made it up.

  3. Question for the Moderator:
It wasn’t long ago that one of the moderators admonished us to refrain from personal insults. I wholeheartedly agreed with the admonishment even though it wasn’t directed just at me but to everyone engaged in personal insults.
I hold strong conservative and patriotic views and effectively argue for them. I support strong borders and protection of Hungarian children from LGBTQ propaganda.
Based on American and Western European experience, I consider the trans-perverts extremely harmful and dangerous to children, girls and women.
My arguments don’t sit well with advocates for Soros open society, open borders, unlimited illegal migration and LGBTQ access and abuse Hungarian children.
In the decadent West, people who express my conservative views are imprisoned for their views. Contrary to Western lies, it is they, not Hungary that suppress freedom of expression. We are free but they are not free.
These people got so frustrated with my exercise of free speech, protected by Hungarian law that they sunk to following my posts just to post the opposite of what I have said. That in itself is no problem. The problem is that they do that posting with my username.
I know that this site is heavily moderated because I see that some of my posts are declined while others are edited.
Forging my username as if I was posting those opinions contrary to mine is abuse and personal insult.
How is it possible that the moderators allow them to maliciously forge my username?

  4. I suspect that it is Mario but they can post under any username. It is easier for you to determine who it is because you can check the email of poster.
My initial username was István (my real name). I will start using “MAGYARORSZÁG A MAGYAROKÉ” because the others got stale.
I believe that the program administrator can find out who is doing it and stop it.

  5. Wow… I think DNH should hire Mr. Stop, what given all the good information he presents. At least he has owned up to the misinformation (this one time) about the “no go zones” . Perhaps DNH can use his as filter of the Tucker lies and other misstatements. As for usurping names, since his changes daily along with the truth he spouts what might need protecting are truth seekers… but since this rag/site isn’t journalism, the contributors aren’t journalists, the commentators are held to no standards.. keep it like it is. It’s actually fun to read and realize just how narrow the blinders have been focused.

  6. TO ELEONORA JOBST

I have just read this above comment with interest. I think therein stands the problem. The person who posts under StopSoros and his perverts, clearly believes his opinion is always right and therefore feels the need to correct others in a very disrespectful and obscene manner. There’s nothing wrong in having strong views as he clearly does, but I think other contributors are fed up with constantly having their opinions trashed by this person in a very malapert way.
The constant referrals to ‘the decadent west’ are little more than crude and as a westerner myself, highly insulting. Some of his comments are downright vulgar and I would imagine people are just giving him a taste of his own medicine. The hatred he appears to have is quite alarming. He also feels the need to patronise us by using Hungarian phrases. Some of us may be westerners but it doesn’t necessarily mean we agree with everything the west does, however, this also works for here too. We may not always agree with what Hungary does but most of us seem able to give a balanced argument based on our understanding. This doesn’t make us traitors or haters of Hungary, which is what this person seems to think. Respect is something this person seems to lack.

    • Thanks for sharing your opinion on the matter, we fully agree with it. We’ve been already working on finding a solution that will work for everyone. Please bear with patience till then!

  7. THIS IS A FORGERY, AVERY DISHONEST FORGERY:
    StopSoros and his perverts says:
    18/12/2021 at 06:13
Forget my last comment about numerou no go zones in Western Erope. I don’t know any. I made it up.

The no go zones in Western Europe are a real thing and show that migrants from the Middle-East and Africa have no intention to integrate. They are a danger to national security.

  8. Dear Eleonora Jobst,
    Thank you for your help.
I understand that my views are not shared by everyone. It is natural
I also understand that some people will say things that are false and hurtful for Hungarians. I may not like it but that is called freedom of expression.
I don’t understand and find highly objectionable when people forge my username and post lies pretending that I wrote it.

  9. I would find the self-righteous mischaracterizations and false statements of “TO THE MODERATOR says: 19/12/2021 at 11:50” comical if it didn’t try to justify the numerous forgings of my username with statements contrary to mine as if I wrote them.
That may be acceptable in the West but making false statement while forging another person’s name is unacceptable for Hungarians.

It is a crude justification that “people are just giving him a taste of his own medicine” because I would never forge another person’s name. It may be acceptable in the West but it is not my “medicine”.

  10. TO ELEONORA JOBST

Thank you for your response (19.12 at 2220 hours) to my comment written 19.12 at 1150 hours, and for your agreement in the matter.
I see the person in question has been busy again, this time claiming false statements. The ‘decadent west’ is wording he uses, and therefore not a false statement. As for mischaracterisation, it is he who calls everyone perverts, despises migrants/refugees, despises LGBTQ, despises any government opposition, despises the west, and is openly rude on all these subjects for us all to see. As he so proudly and freely gives his bigoted opinions they are not, therefore, mischaracterisations.

  11. The problem with “westerners” is that they forget where they are. The arrogance of these people thinking that they can impose their values on us is mind bugling. I believe that the West is decadent, LGBTQ is perversion and illegal migration from the Middle-East and Africa is harmful and dangerous. Expressing these views in the West would get me imprisoned but not in Hungary because Hungary is a free country and our freedom of expression is protected.

This article suggesting that Hungary is a third-world country is an example of western hypocrisy. The article is misleading because it suggests that armed guards are needed because Hungarian train passengers are usually under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The article fails to mention that those passengers are Gypsies.
Hungary and most of Central Europe has struggled unsuccessfully to mainstream the Gypsies. Incredible sums were spent to educate them and provide them with decent housing and opportunities not afforded to Hungarians. Some integrated but most have not.
Canada wouldn’t accept them when they requested refugee status. Why not?
It is a problem we will probably have to cope with without any help from “westerners” but it is going too far when their criminal conduct is used to brand Hungary a third-world country.

  12. How do you know the passengers were gypsies?! My husband was once on a train with someone who had obviously taken something as he was ranting and raving, wasn’t you by any chance was it?! Anyway, as it was unsociable hours they were the only two people in a compartment, so before getting off at the required station my husband knocked the person out. Just made him look like he was sleeping. The man wasn’t a gypsy.
Another time we were on a train with a load of football fans, and the police were filming each compartment. We presumed it was incase the fans vandalised their compartments. It was very unnerving and not a nice experience at all. But we were glad the police were there because of the noise the fans made. It was quite intimidating to say the least. When they all disembarked at another city, coaches and yet more police were waiting to take them to the football match.

  13. “he was ranting and raving, wasn’t you by any chance was it?!”

You are such an idiot. You could have told your story without being personally insulting but you had to get into the gutter.
The incidents you mentioned may have been true or lies. I don’t know because your anti-Hungarian bias is showing but let’s say that your story is true.
I never said the Hungarians don’t commit crimes. It happens and we have our police to handle it but if your story is true than your husband is a criminal. Do I need to explain that?
The fact remains that the criminal attacks on night and early-morning trains near Debrecen are committed by Gypsies, not Hungarians. I also read Hungarian forums where they tell the full story:
“Fegyveres őröknek kell(ene) kísérni az utasokat egyes vonatokon a tomboló cigánybűnözés miatt”

  14. Yes, the incidents were true. My husband hit the man as he thought of any vulnerable people who may be travelling alone, and what would they do, there was no one to help at that time. He thought of others, imagine a woman travelling alone, an elderly person travelling alone, anyone travelling alone. Don’t worry, the man wouldn’t have known a thing, and no mark would have been left on him. It’s as I said, looked like he was sleeping. Better that way. These incidents weren’t on trains from Debrecen either. That particular incident from Szeged to Budapest, second incident Budapest to Székesfehérvár, which is where the football match was to take place.
There is no anti Hungarian bias shown, as I didn’t say that the person was Hungarian, just not a gypsy.
On another note, I did regret writing that was it you ranting and raving, so apologies for that and I hope you accept them, I shouldn’t have done that.
